Soccer Stingers make history

The Concordia Stingers women's soccer team made history with a 2-1 victory over the No. 9-ranked Laval Rouge et Or at Concordia Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was the first time in 22 attempts the unranked Stingers beat the Rouge et Or. Laval entered university women's soccer in 1995 and has been a dominant force from the start. Going into the game, the Rouge et Or had a 21-0-1 record versus the Stingers.

Concordia went up 2-0 on goals from Erica Geertsen in the 39th minute and Jennifer Ann Scott in the 55th minute. Laval's lone goal came from Francine Brousseau in the 62nd minute.

The Stingers and the Rouge et Or both have 4-2 win-loss records and are tied in third place in the Quebec women's conference.

It was also a milestone for Jorge Sanchez who recorded his 25th conference victory as head coach of the Stingers women's soccer program. He took over the program in 2002.

In men's soccer action, Concordia and Laval tied 0-0.
