Wrestling coach to receive excellence award

Long-time Concordia University wrestling coach Victor Zilberman will be honored by the Coaching Association of Canada in Ottawa tonight.

He will be among 43 coaches presented with a 2010 Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Award. The prestigious awards recognize coaches whose athletes have excelled at World Championships and/or the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Zilberman has trained many very successful athletes at Concordia and at the national and international levels. Under his guidance, Martine Dugrenier won the gold medal in the women’s 67 kg weight class at the 2010 World Wrestling Championships in Moscow this past September. She was a standout at Concordia for five years, ending in 2004.

The highly-respected Zilberman is the first coach to be a 10-time recipient of the coaching excellence honor.

The awards will be presented as part of the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Sportif in Ottawa this weekend.

The Coaching Association of Canada is a not-for-profit amateur sport organization with the mission of enhancing the experiences of all Canadian athletes through quality coaching.
