Concordia Stinger wrestler Veronica Keefe is one of 33 elite student-athletes who received bursaries from Hydro-Québec and la Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec recently.
Hydro-Québec gave out $87,500 to top young athletes training in Quebec. Keefe received a $3500 bursary. The goal of the program is to help student-athletes with their studies, giving them more time to train in their sport and work towards achieving international and Olympic success.
Keefe, 20, is in her third year with the Concordia wrestling program. During her career, she won a gold medal at the 2009 Canada Games, a silver medal at the 2008 Canadian national junior championships and in 2010, she won a bronze medal an elite international tournament held in Turkey.
She was a sliver medallist at the CIS championship last March.
This past August she represented Canada at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in Melbourne, Australia. Competing at 72 kilos, she finished first in the senior women’s freestyle event.
