Wrestlers shine in Europe

Several of Concordia University's wrestlers have been competing in Europe recently in preparation for the upcoming World University Wrestling Championships next week in Mongolia.

In Belgium, at the KWIK international tournament, David Zilberman, Concordia University's 2006 male athlete of the year, won a gold medal in the 96-kilo weight class. Tyler Marghetis won a gold medal in the 74-kilo weight class. Former Concordia standout Martine Dugrenier also won a gold medal competing in the women's 67-kilo weight class.

In Santiago, Spain, Tim Wadsworth won a gold medal at the 66-kilo weight class at the 2006 Galicia International Wrestling Tournament.

Zilberman, Marghetis and Wadsworth all won gold medals at the 2006 Canadian university wrestling championships last March.

Currently, the Concordia athletes are training in Santiago, Spain, getting ready for the world university championships, which begin June 15 in Ulan Bator, Mongolia. Zilberman, Wadsworth and Dugrenier will represent Canada and Concordia at the competition.

The Canadian entry will be headed by Dr. Victor Zilberman, Concordia head coach and the 2006 Canadian university coach of the year.
