Stinger athletes won three gold medals to help the men’s wrestling team finish fourth out of 19 teams at the annual Concordia Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Sunday.
Trevor Banks won the 54-kilo weight class, Scott Schiller won the 68-kilo weight class and Greg Rossy won the heavyweight category to help Concordia accumulate 29 points.
Also contributing was Jake Renning who finished fourth at 57 kilos.
The women’s team collected 11 points for fifth place out of 12 entries. Linda Morais won the 63-kilo weight class, while teammate Malka Winheim finished sixth in the same category.
The Black Bear Wrestling Club won the men’s wrestling competition with 48 points, while Brock University won the women’s side with 40 points.
On a side note, UFC champion Georges St-Pierre stopped by the tournament to encourage the Concordia wrestlers. He trains with them in preparation for his competitions.
