Duff, Sanchez on women's soccer honour roll

Concordia Stinger striker Jennifer Duff and head coach Jorge Sanchez were honoured by the RSEQ when the women’s soccer conference announced its all-stars and major award winners late this week.

Duff, a fourth-year striker, was named to the league’s first all-star team. It marks the first time since 2005 that a member of the Stingers has made the top team in Quebec.

The Moncton native finished the season with 12 goals and three assists in 14 games for the Stingers. She accounted for half of the team scoring this season.

Duff was a three-time Concordia athlete of the Week this fall. She was also the RSEQ and CIS athlete of the week on Oct. 23. She was recognized for scoring five goals in two Stinger victories on Oct. 19 and Oct. 21.

Sanchez was named the RSEQ women’s soccer coach of the year. He guided the Stingers to a 6-5-3 win-loss-tie record and fifth place in the eight-team conference. Concordia was fighting for a playoff spot right up until the last day of the season when a tough 2-0 loss to the Laval Rouge et Or eliminated the team.

The coach was recognized for the great advances his team made this season. The Stingers improved their record from 2-9-3 in 2011.

The women will enjoy some down time before beginning preparations for the indoor soccer season that starts in January.
