Silver medal for Zilberman at Worlds

David Zilberman won a silver medal in the 96-kilo weight class at the seventh World University Wrestling Championships held in Ulaanbaator, Mongolia June 15-20.

The Montreal native who was Concordia's Male Athlete of the Year in 2006 enjoyed a strong competition and lost a close match to an Iranian opponent in the championship on Tuesday.

At the last world championships held in Lodz, Poland in 2004, Zilberman also earned a silver medal.

A Leisure Sciences student who will start his fourth year of studies in September, Zilberman has been built impressive credentials in the CIS. He was a gold medallist at the nationals in both 2004 and 2006. In 2005 he earned a silver medal. He was an all-Canadian all three years. In his first season in Canadian university competition he was named the CIS's outstanding male rookie at nationals.

Concordia's Tim Wadsworth also represented Canada at the international competition, finishing eighth in the 66 kg weight class.

Former Stinger Martine Dugrenier represented her country as well, earning a bronze medal in the women's 67 kilos division. In Poland in 2004 she was a gold medallist.
