B.C. recruits to open soccer camp

Mid-fielders Olivia Dunbar and Michelle Segovia will lead a stellar recruiting class when the Concordia Stingers women’s soccer team opens its 2006 training camp on Monday at Concordia Stadium in N.D.G.

Dunbar, a playmaking mid-fielder from Vancouver, played most recently with Kerrisdale and Westside FC in the Vancouver women’s metro soccer league. She is a former B.C. provincial team pool player and has also participated in the North American Super Y League.

“Olivia is a player with strong athletic abilities and a very competitive nature,” said Concordia head coach Jorge Sanchez. “She will add another dimension to our already solid mid-field and bring some interesting offensive potential to our team.”

Dunbar will study in Concordia’s prestigious Fine Arts program.

Segovia developed her soccer abilities with Abbotsford minor soccer where she played metro soccer for four year and in the North American Super Y League for four seasons.

“Michelle has the potential to become a solid player with our program,” said Sanchez. “She will bring a great competitive instinct, leadership skills and great tactical experience.”

A strong student, Segovia has been accepted in Concordia’s Psychology program.

Another player to watch for in training camp is Catherine Allen, a top recruit in 2005 who missed all of last season because of an injury. She is a hard-nosed defender who will add size, strength and quickness to the Stingers.
