The Concordia Stingers women's soccer alumni raised $1000 and collected 50 teddy bears at the inaugural Erica Cadieux memorial game played last Sunday at Concordia Stadium.
On behalf of the alumni, organizers Rhonda Baptiste and Nadia Brasseur presented the cheque and the toys to the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation this morning.
Gil Lamy, manager of special events for the foundation, accepted the donation.
The McGill Martlets defeated the host Stingers 5-0 in the game, which is symbolic of women's university soccer supremacy between the two universities and pays tribute to Cadieux, who died tragically when she was struck by a car last January.
Cadieux was a mid-fielder/defender with the Stingers women's soccer team 1992-'94. Baptiste a former teammate describes Cadieux as "an exceptional human being who was filled with Stinger pride." The Erica Cadieux memorial game will be played annually at Concordia Stadium.
