Katherine Purchase of the women’s hockey team and Mukiya Post of the men’s basketball team have been named PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 8.
Purchase, a rookie goaltender, was exceptional in a 2-1 shootout loss to the No. 2-ranked McGill Martlets on Saturday. She blanked McGill for 59:44 of regulation time and turned away 46 of 47 shots. She stopped four of five Martlets in the shootout. She currently leads the CIS in goals-against average with 1.10 and save percentage at .959.
An 18-year-old native of Halifax, Purchase is an Accounting student at Concordia.
Post, a fifth-year guard, had a couple of strong performances in back-to-back games with the first-place McGill Redmen last week. In a 65-60 loss last Thursday, Post was the Stingers’ leading scorer with 14 points and four rebounds. Two days later he was top scorer again with 12 points which helped the Stingers secure a 51-44 victory.
A 23-year-old student from Victoria, B.C., he is majoring in History.
