Jenna Thompson of the women’s rugby team and Jaleel Webb of the men’s basketball team have been named Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 11.
Thompson, a second-year lock, was the outstanding player in Concordia’s 22-21 victory the Laval Rouge et Or in Quebec City on Saturday. She was named the game MVP for her tenacity and effort vs. Laval, the No. 9-ranked team in the CIS. The win gave the No. 8-ranked Stingers sole possession of second place in the RSEQ conference.
A 20-year-old native of Montreal, Thompson is a Civil Engineering student at Concordia.
Webb, a second-year guard, was instrumental in helping the Stingers win the three-day Concordia Classic tournament last weekend. He was solid in all three games but was dominant in the Stingers’ 82-70 victory over the UPEI Panthers in the championship game. He had 20 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. He was named the tournament MVP.
The 23-year-old student from Pierrefonds, Que. is working on a degree in Urban Studies.
