MVP Beaulieu leads Stingers at Saskatchewan tourney

Ken Beaulieu scored 23 points to lead the Concordia Stingers to an 84-75 win over the Windsor Lancers in the championship game at the Saskatchewan Huskies Shootout in Saskatoon on Saturday.

The Stingers, who finished the three-day competition with a perfect 3-0 win-loss record, halted the host team’s six-year winning streak at their event.

Beaulieu was named the tournament MVP while teammate Jaleel Webb was named an all-star.

All five Concordia starters registered at least 10 points in the win over Windsor. The Stingers were led by Beaulieu’s 23 points while rookie Schneiders Suffrard notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Concordia defeated Saskatchewan 80-67 on the first day of the tournament and downed the Regina Cougars 85-79 on Friday.

Head coach Rastko Popovic and the Stingers have won seven straight games in the preseason. They travel to St. Catharines, Ont. to play three games at the Brock tournament next weekend which will wrap up the exhibition season.
