The Concordia Stingers men’s basketball team earned a pair of statement wins last week, sweeping their home-and-home series against McGill to improve to .500 on the season.
On Thursday night in Montréal, the Stingers took control early, defeating the Redbirds 80–63 on the road. Junior Mercy and Jaheem Joseph led the way with 16 points apiece, pacing a balanced Concordia attack. Karam Sahly chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds, while Yohan Léger added nine points and six rebounds in support.
The two teams met again Saturday afternoon at the Concordia Gym, where the Stingers completed the sweep with a hard-fought 72–68 victory. Joseph was once again a key contributor, pouring in 21 points and grabbing four rebounds. Concordia saw strong depth scoring, with Léger finishing with 15 points and seven rebounds, Sahly recording 13 points and nine rebounds, and Anthony Gibson-Maxwell adding 10 points.
With the two wins, the Stingers move to 4–4 on the season.
Concordia returns to action with another home-and-home series, this time against Laval, beginning Thursday, January 22 in Québec City. The Stingers will then return home Saturday, January 24 at 4 p.m. to host the Rouge et Or at the Concordia Gym.
