Damian Buckley named head coach of Concordia men's basketball

After serving as interim head coach during the 2025-26 season, the Concordia Stingers are proud to announce the appointment of Damian Buckley as head coach of the men's basketball program.

“I am relieved and excited to be officially named head coach,” Buckley said. "I'm elated and honored that Concordia has the confidence in me to lead the Stingers men's basketball program and continue building on the progress we made last season."

A standout point guard during his playing career, Buckley suited up for the Stingers from 2005 to 2009 and remains one of the most decorated players in program history. He was named an RSEQ all-star in each of his four seasons, earned Concordia Male Athlete of the Year honors twice, and capped off his career by being named the 2008-09 RSEQ Player of the Year and a First Team CIS All-Canadian.

Following his playing career, Buckley transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach with the Stingers before expanding his experience with the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Most recently, he was a member of the coaching staff of the Montréal Alliance of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).

In his first season leading the program, Buckley guided the Stingers to a 10-9 record and a third-place finish in the RSEQ standings. Concordia advanced to the conference semifinals, where it was eliminated by the eventual champion Laval Rouge et Or.

The Stingers will open the 2026-27 RSEQ season on Nov. 7 at Bishop's before hosting McGill in their home opener on Nov. 12 at 8 pm at the Concordia Gymnasium.
