Rajotte named MVP of RSEQ women's rugby league

Concordia Stinger Frédérique Rajotte, a third-year outside centre, was named the MVP of the RSEQ women’s rugby conference when the major award winners and all-stars were announced earlier today.

Rajotte led the Stingers in scoring with 12 tries in seven games. She was a dominant force game in and game out.

“She’s fast and she’s shifty,” said Stinger head coach Graeme McGravie. “She has great all-round skills for her position. She’s physically stronger than last year. She’s a smarter player and the way she sees the game, her vision, she’s head and shoulders above other players.”

The award is another exceptional accomplishment for Rajotte who is part of the Canadian national team’s talent pool and enjoys success at the international level as well.

As conference MVP she is also a member of the RSEQ all-star team. Teammates Alex Tessier and Emily Hickson were named to the all-star team as well.

Tessier, a third-year inside centre, scored seven tries and connected for eight converts in seven games. In 2014, she was a CIS all-Canadian, the RSEQ MVP and an all-star. In 2013, she was the Quebec conference rookie of the year. She also represents Canada in international competitions.

Hickson, a third-year winger, makes her first appearance on the Quebec honour roll. She scored two tries and had two converts in six games.

The Stingers will play for the RSEQ championship against the Gee-Gees at University of Ottawa this Saturday at 4 p.m. Both teams have qualified for the CIS national championship the following week. The winner will have bragging rights and go into nationals with a higher seed.
