Director of Recreation and Athletics D’Arcy Ryan is pleased to announce Craig Beemer has agreed to serve as interim head coach of the Concordia Stingers women’s rugby team for the 2023 season.
Beemer will fill in for head coach Jocelyn Barrieau who is on sabbatical from the Stingers while she pursues an opportunity to work was as a full-time assistant coach with Rugby Canada’s women’s sevens team.
A highly regarded rugby coach, Beemer was at the helm of Concordia’s men’s program for four seasons. He won three consecutive Quebec championships before stepping down in December of 2019. He also won seven provincial titles as head coach of McGill University’s men’s team.
Beemer graduated from McGill with a Bachelor of Education in 2005 and has worked as a teacher, coach and academic advisor ever since. He currently serves as the Stingers’ varsity academic co-ordinator.
The Stingers open training camp in August and begin the season at home versus the McGill Martlets on Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. at Concordia stadium. The opener is also the annual Kelly-Anne Drummond Cup.
