Women's rugby seeded 5th at CIS nationals

The Concordia Stingers women’s rugby team will head to Queen’s University and Kingston, Ont. as the fifth-seeded team at the CIS national tournament that gets under way this Thursday.

In the opening round of games, the Stingers will meet the No. 4-team, the Victoria Vikes, at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

The Vikes posted a 4-2 win-loss record in the Canada West conference. In playoffs they beat the Alberta Pandas 26-20 on Oct. 23 to advance to their league final. They dominated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 50-17 to take the title.

The Stingers head into the championship with a 6-1 win-loss record in regular season conference play. They defeated the Laval Rouge et Or 46-20 in the RSEQ semifinals before losing to the Ottawa Gee-Gees 25-17 in the Quebec championship on Saturday.

“We feel really good about our chances in this tournament,” said Concordia head coach Graeme McGravie. “There’s something different about this group. We have confidence in each other. There is a an incredible self-belief.”
