The Concordia Stingers started 2016 with a bang winning three straight games and outscoring their opposition 20-0 to win the 48th annual Theresa Humes women’s hockey tournament.
Heading into the final day of competition on Monday, the Stingers were expecting a tough contest from the Plattsburgh Cardinals, a Division 3 powerhouse from the ECAC West Division. The Cardinals were undefeated in 15 games and had two victories at the Humes tournament - 4-2 over the Ottawa Gee-Gees and 3-1 over the Carleton Ravens.
Concordia put an end to the impressive Plattsburgh streak with a 3-0 win in the final game of the eight-team event.
Keriann Schofield and Tracy-Ann Lavigne scored first period goals while Claudia Dubois sealed the victory with a third period marker. It was Dubois’ sixth goal of the three-day tournament.
Briar Bache picked up the shutout for the Stingers turning away 23 shots.
On the first day of the tournament, Concordia defeated the UPEI Panthers 12-0. Sunday the Stingers downed the Dalhousie Tigers 5-0.
Concordia returns to conference play with two games this weekend. The Stingers travel across town to meet the McGill Martlets on Friday at 7 p.m. and return home to host the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
