Men's basketball knocks McGill out of 1st place

The Concordia Stingers men’s basketball team took sole possession of first place in the RSEQ conference with a 68-57 road victory over the No. 4-ranked McGill Redmen this afternoon.

On Thursday night, the Stingers also took McGill down a notch with a 95-83 double overtime victory before a packed house on the Loyola campus.

“I’m extremely happy with our overall play this weekend,” said Concordia head coach Rastko Popovic. “I am especially pleased with our improving commitment on the defensive end of the floor.

“We are taking steps in the right direction and are looking forward to building on these two solid wins as we continue to prepare for the last month of the season and then playoffs.”

This afternoon, second-year guard Jaleel Webb led the Stingers’ attack with 21 points. He hit four three-pointers in five attempts and was five for five from the line. Third-year forward Ken Beaulieu also made a sizeable contribution with 20 points.

Concordia’s win-loss record is now 6-4 which moves the Stingers into first place. McGill falls to second-place with a 5-3 record.

McGill can gain back some ground in its two-games series with the Bishop’s Gaiters next weekend while Concordia has a bye.
