Cagers look to clinch first place

The Concordia Stingers men’s basketball team can clinch first place in the QSSF conference and home-court advantage in the playoffs with a win this weekend at home.

The Stingers are currently in first place in the Quebec league with an 11-1 win-loss record. The Laval Rouge et Or are in second place with a 7-5 record. Four games remain in the regular season, and any one victory will seal first place for Concordia.

The Rouge et Or will face the Stingers this Friday night at Concordia gym at 6 p.m. Stinger captain Patrick Perrotte is convinced it will be an entertaining game.

“We’re very similar,” explains the fifth-year forward. “We’re both running teams. We both have a good transition game. Every time we play it’s a great game. It’s a great rivalry. The fans will see a very exciting game.”

Wrapping up first place and playing well the last two weeks are important to Perrotte and his teammates.

“Last year we clinched first place and then the team let down,” says Perrotte. “We can’t do that this year. We have to keep playing strong and send a message to the rest of the teams.”

After four weeks on the road, the Stingers are home for two games. They host Laval on Friday at 6 p.m. and the Bishop’s Gaiters will be the visitors on Saturday at 4 p.m.
