Coach of the Year honors for Dore

John Dore, head coach of the Concordia Stingers, has been named Coach of the Year by his peers in the Quebec university men’s basketball conference.

In 2006-’07, Dore led the Stingers to their third straight first-place finish in the Quebec conference and the No. 2-ranking in the country.

At Concordia University, where he has been the head coach since the 1989-'90 season, Dore has taken the Stingers to the national championship tournament nine times. He won the national crown in 1990 and placed second in 1995 and 2005.

In the fall of 1995, he was named University Coach of the Year by the Foundation for Quebec University Athletics. He has been named the outstanding coach in the Quebec Student Sports Federation conference on 11 occasions. In 1991, he was named Men's Basketball Coach of the Year by the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union.

Dore and his Stingers close out the QSSF regular season with a home game versus UQAM Citadins on Friday at 6 p.m. and a road game Sunday afternoon against the Laval Rouge et Or.

Concordia has secured home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, beginning with a semifinal game on Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. The Stingers’ opponent will be decided this weekend as the Bishop’s Gaiters and the Citadins battle for the last spot in the QSSF playoffs and a date with the Stingers.
