Women's Hockey: We are the RSEQ champions

For the first time since 2005, the Concordia Stingers have claimed the RSEQ women’s hockey championship.

The Stingers defeated the Montréal Carabins 3-1 in the third-and-deciding game of the championship series played at CEPSUM arena Sunday afternoon.

The teams exchanged goals in the second period with Stinger Sophie Gagnon opening the scoring at 5:44 and Marie-Pier Dubé of the Carabins replying 10 minutes later.

The third period belonged to Concordia with goals from Marie-Pascale Bernier and Claudia Dubois.

Goaltender Katherine Purchase turned away 22 of 23 shots to pick up the win.

Both the Stingers and the Carabins had already earned berths at the U SPORTS national championship March 15-18 at Western University in London, Ont. Concordia will go in as the Quebec champions and will be seeded higher.

The seeding will be announced by U SPORTS on Sunday, March 11.
