Cagers bounce back in Halifax

All-Canadian power forward Patrick Perrotte scored 25 points to lead the top-seeded Concordia Stingers to a 79-62 win over the No. 5 Windsor Lancers in a consolation semifinal at the CIS national championship in Halifax this afternoon.

Perrotte, a fifth-year senior from Verdun, Que., had 18 points in the first half as Concordia headed to the locker room up 48-27. He finished the day 10-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed five rebounds en route to player-of-the-game honors.

"We wanted to show everyone that we're a good team,” said Perrotte. “We play for pride now and we still want to finish the tournament strong. The team people saw today, these are the real Stingers."

Third-year centre Jamal Gallier also had a strong outing for Concordia with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double.

The Quebec conference champion Stingers advance to tomorrow’s consolation final at 12:30 p.m. when they will face the second-seeded UBC Thunderbirds. The Canada West champions defeated Acadia 83-69 in the second consolation semifinal.

Ironically all four conference champions lost on the first day of the national tournament: Concordia (Quebec champions), UBC (Canada West), Acadia (Atlantic) and Windsor (Ontario).

The consolation final will feature to No. 1 and No. 2 teams in CIS.
