Scout Watkins Southward commits to women's hockey

Head coach Julie Chu is pleased to announce right wing Scout Watkins Southward of the Kingston Junior Ice Wolves has committed to the Concordia Stingers women's hockey program.

“Scout is a competitor,” said Chu. “She’s willing to battle in the tough areas of the ice to give her team the edge. She is going to be a great character person that will bring an awesome energy to our team culture both on and off the ice. We are very excited to have Scout join our Stingers’ family.”

Watkins Southward developed her hockey prowess in the Greater Kingston Girls Hockey Association. She excelled at the bantam and junior levels and was an assistant captain with the Junior Ice Wolves in 2017-18 and is the captain this season.

She enjoys success in many sports including volleyball, soccer, track, skiing, field hockey and hockey at La Salle Secondary School. She also recently represented Canada at the U19 World Floorball Championships in Switzerland.

Watkins Southward has been recognized for several off-ice achievements. She received bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards for her volunteer work and a Community Athletic Award. She is also a honour roll student.

“I chose Concordia because I know I will have an amazing opportunity to get better athletically and to be a member of a successful team as well as go to a great school,” she said. “I know when I am at Concordia I will not only grow athletically and academically but also as a person. I am looking forward to being a part of the Stinger family.”

She will join the Stingers for the 2019-20 season.
