The Concordia Stingers women's hockey team will face off against its long-time crosstown rivals, the McGill Martlets, in the RSEQ semifinals, beginning on home ice Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
The best-of-three playoff series starts at the Ed Meagher Arena on the Loyola campus. Game 2 is at McGill’s McConnell Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. Game 3 if necessary will be back at Loyola on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Martlets finished in third place in the five-team Quebec conference with a 14-6 win-loss record and 28 points. The Stingers were second with a 13-4-3 performance and 29 points.
There were five regular season meetings between the teams. McGill won three of them, but the Stingers won the final two – 4-1 on Jan. 25 and 1-0 on Feb. 3.
The last time the teams met in the post-season was in the championship round in 2017. The Martlets swept the series in two straight games.
The team that prevails will meet the winner of the Montréal Carabins-Ottawa Gee-Gees semifinal showdown in the RSEQ championship round, also a best-of-three series.
Two Quebec conference programs will compete in the eight-team draw at the U SPORTS national championship March 14-17 in Charlottetown, PEI. The two RSEQ finalists automatically qualify for the championship.
