Stingers well-represented at Summer Hockey Showcase

Five members of the Concordia Stingers hockey programs will be involved in Team Canada's Women's Hockey Summer Showcase at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Aug. 2-11.

Hockey Canada has invited 45 players to its National Women’s Development Team Selection Camp. The athletes will compete for a chance to wear the Maple Leaf in a pair of three-game series against the United States in Lake Placid, N.Y., from Aug. 14-17.

Forward Rosalie Bégin-Cyr, who is going into her second year with the Stingers, and newcomer Emmy Fecteau, also a forward, will be among the players split into two teams to participate in practices, intrasquad games, off-ice training, fitness testing and classroom sessions.

Stinger equipment manager Andrew Davis will also work with this group.

Separate from Team Canada’s invitees, U SPORTS has put together an all-star team that will also train and compete at the Summer Showcase. Fourth-year forward Audrey Belzile will participate in the event for the second straight year.

Alex Cousineau, the video co-ordinator for the Stingers men’s hockey team, will work with the U SPORTS all-stars.

The camp will also include national teams from Russia, France and Japan.
