The third event in the prestigious Stingers Signature Series is the Erica Cadieux memorial soccer night which takes place this Friday at Concordia Stadium in N.D.G.
The Stingers and the Montréal Carabins play a doubleheader with the women’s game kicking off at 6 p.m. and the men’s match going at 8:15 p.m.
The games rally sports fans, friends and family who gather to honour Erica Cadieux, a young mother and lawyer who died tragically at 34 years of age when she was struck by a car in January of 2006 in Beaconsfield, Que.
She was a devoted mid-fielder/defender with the Concordia Stingers women's soccer team in 1992-94.
Together with the Cadieux family, the Stingers and soccer fans collect small gifts for the patients at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and bring them to the games. It’s a simple and meaningful way to pay tribute to a spirited and generous young woman who holds a special place in the hearts of the Stingers.
The Child Life Department at the hospital helps children, youth and their families cope with the healthcare experience by offering developmentally-appropriate activities, opportunities for play, preparation for medical procedures and emotional support.
Hospitalized children and teenagers need toys and activities throughout the year. Toys and other items donated by the community help provide recreational activities and celebrate special events.
Mr. Potato Head, bubbles, stickers, gift cards, puzzles, big dinosaurs, blankets, hair accessories - all these things can help make things a little brighter for the young patients at the Montreal Children's Hospital.
