Women's hockey team clinches first place in RSEQ

With a 3-1 victory over the Carleton Ravens on Sunday night, the Concordia Stingers women's hockey team locked up first place in the RSEQ conference and home-ice advantage in the playoffs.

There are four games remaining in the regular season, and Concordia sits on top of the standings with 28 points. The second-place McGill Martlets and third-place Montréal Carabins have 20 and 18 points, respectively.

Even if McGill was to make up the eight points in four games, Concordia owns the tiebreaker having won three of four meetings to date. There’s one game left between teams. They will meet on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. for the Stingers’ annual Pink in the Rink game.

Concordia is currently the No. 1-ranked team in the country.

It’s been 15 years since the Stingers have won the regular season title. In 2005, they finished in first place with 10-2-3 win-loss-tie record. That season they also won the playoff championship and earned a berth at the national championship.

Here’s the Stingers' remaining regular season games:

Feb. 2 – Concordia at Ottawa – 2 p.m.

Feb. 8 – McGill vs. Concordia – 3 p.m. – Pink in the Rink

Feb. 9 – Ottawa vs. Concordia – 3 p.m.

Feb. 14 – Carleton vs. Concordia – 7:30 p.m.  – Seniors Night
