Anderson named to Olympic team

Cecilia Anderson, Concordia University's all-Canadian goaltender, was named to Sweden's women's hockey roster and will represent her country at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics in February.

She will leave for Team Sweden's training camp on Thursday to begin preparations for the women's hockey competition, which takes place Feb. 11-20.

Sweden opens with a game against Russia on Feb. 11. The medal round will be played Feb. 20. Sweden won the bronze medal in 2002.

Anderson is the first Concordia women's hockey player from an active roster to go to the Olympics. Several athletes, including Cammi Granato, Karyn Bye and Therese Brisson, were Olympians after they left Concordia.

In the first semester, Anderson played 335 minutes in Quebec conference action. She had a 4-1-1 record and a 1.43 goals-against average.

The 23-year-old native of Väddö, Sweden is in her third season with the Stingers. She is a Leisure Sciences major.
