Donor comes forward with $10,000 matching gift for men's basketball

This Giving Tuesday you can double your donation to the Concordia Stingers men's basketball team thanks to the generosity of former Loyola College star and Concordia Hall of Famer George Lengvari.

The chairman of Lengvari Capital, who graduated from Loyola Cum Laude with a BA major in Economics in 1963, will match donations up to a total of $10,000.

“I cannot express how much we value George’s contributions to our program,” said head coach Rastko Popovic. “His support helps us offer an extraordinary experience to our student-athletes. Not only are his gifts impactful, but he is a remarkable role model for our Stingers and many others.

“I sincerely hope people appreciate what he has accomplished in his life and, more importantly, how much he gives back to the community, and not just to the Stingers.”

With the extra support, Popovic wants to provide his players with more financial aid, top-tier coaching and opportunities to train and compete internationally.

Giving Tuesday takes place this Dec. 1 and is a global day of creating positive impact. It has become a wide-spread tradition celebrated on the Tuesday following American Thanksgiving.

Popovic is calling all alumni and fans to take advantage of the generous matching gift and to support Concordia men’s basketball on Giving Tuesday.

The team’s FundOne page is up and ready to accept your gifts. You can visit it HERE

No need to wait until Giving Tuesday – all donations made from now until Dec. 1 will be counted in our campaign. All gifts are eligible for charitable tax receipts.
