Second donor offers major support to men's basketball on Giving Tuesday

The Concordia Stingers men's basketball team will benefit from a second big gift on Giving Tuesday thanks to the generous support of Marcel Elefant, who will match donations up to a total of $5000.

He is a long-time friend of George Lengvari and joins him in supporting the men’s basketball program. Lengvari, the former Loyola College star, offered to match donations up to $10,000. Elefant’s support means a total of $15,000 worth of donations can be matched.

Elefant graduated from Sir George Williams University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Commerce. He went on to be a successful international business leader.

“It’s a wonderful gift that will be impactful on our program, on the Department of Recreation and Athletics and beyond,” said Director D’Arcy Ryan. “It’s an exceptional example for our young student-athletes, and we hope it encourages many people to support the Stingers and other initiatives in their communities on Giving Tuesday.”

Dec. 1 is a global day to donate and volunteer. It was first observed in 2012 and has become a wide-spread tradition celebrated annually on the Tuesday after American Thanksgiving.

The basketball team’s FundOne page is up and ready to accept your gifts. You can visit it HERE.

Donations made from now through Dec. 1 will be counted in our campaign. All gifts are eligible for charitable tax receipts.
