Eight Concordia Stinger student-athletes received Fondation de l'athlète d'excellence du Québec (FAEQ) bursaries totalling $56,000 at the annual Quebec university sports gala broadcast by RDS on Dec. 1.
Five Stingers will benefit from recruiting bursaries that were created to encourage top Quebec athletes to stay home and attend local universities. The following recipients were each awarded $10,000:
Jessymaude Drapeau – women’s hockey – Cégep André-Laurendeau
Jeffrey Durocher – men’s hockey – QMJHL – Saint John, Rimouski, Gatineau
Grace Gunn – women’s rugby – John Abbott College
Misenga Muteba – women’s basketball – Champlain College, St. Lambert
Erin Rainville – wrestling – Vanier College
There’s a new series of bursaries available to Quebec athletes who leave the province to compete at college or university and who decide to return to Quebec to complete their athletic careers. The following three Stingers benefit from this initiative and received $2000 each:
Alexandra Calderone – women’s hockey – Boston University
Sarah Feola – women’s soccer – University of Louisville
Zachary Phillion – football – New Mexico Military Institute
At the gala, the FAEQ gave out $461,000 in merit and recruitment bursaries to 90 university and Cégep students.
RDS will rebroadcast the gala Dec. 3 at 9 p.m. and Dec. 9 at midnight.
The FAEQ is an organization that brings together stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds including business, education and sport. Its mission is to support student-athletes financially in their pursuit of academic and sports excellence, and to help develop role models in Quebec society.
