Head coach Rastko Popovic is pleased to announce more than $33,000 was raised in support of the Concordia Stingers men's basketball team on Giving Tuesday.
Eighty-two individuals answered the call, donating a total $18,045 when Popovic and his team asked alumni, fans, friends and family to support them. Alumni George Lengvari (Loyola, BA Economics, 1963) and Marcel Elefant (Sir George Williams, BComm, 1960) generously matched the donations with $10,000 and $5,000, respectively. In total there were 84 gifts that generated $33,045.
“Thank you to everyone who contributed,” said Popovic. “This surpassed our expectations. In speaking with our coaches and athletes today, I can tell you everyone is astounded and inspired by the love that came our way. And we appreciate every single gift.”
The extra support will go a long way towards helping Popovic reach his goals of increasing financial aid to student-athletes, providing top-tier coaching and arranging opportunities for the team to train and compete internationally.
