Stinger Alex Boulanger selected for elite hockey mentorship program

Concordia Stinger women's hockey player Alex Boulanger has been selected for a prestigious new mentorship program named Creating Coaches that was launched by U Sports and the Hockey Canada Foundation.

The program, which will support six student-athletes selected from applicants across the country, is designed to increase the number of women in coaching positions in Canada. The two-year initiative will focus on training, mentoring and empowering women.

Boulanger will have a lot of support at Concordia where she will work with head coach Julie Chu and associate head coach Caroline Ouellette.

“Alex is a great candidate for this program,” said Ouellette. “We love that this new initiative will help her continue to develop as a mentor and leader in the game that she is so passionate about. She has already impacted positively so many around her as a player and as a young coach.”

Boulanger is also a coach with the Cégep St. Laurent women’s hockey program. She will receive support from the coaches of the Patriotes as well.

“I would like to thank U Sports and Hockey Canada for investing in this program and helping to make each of us better leaders and coaches,” said Boulanger, a Human Relations major. “My goal is to positively impact the people around me, and the Creating Coaches program will allow me to impact the growth of the game and the athletes I work with.”

The Stingers’ veteran forward will receive a $5000 annual honorarium while in the program.
