Stingers men's basketball adds top talent to deep recruiting class

Head coach Rastko Popovic is pleased to announce guard/forward Polycarpe Mbida Abomo has committed to the Concordia Stingers and joined the men's basketball team in training camp this week.

Mbida Abomo comes out of the Collège Brébeuf program. In 2019 he played in 17 games averaging 21.2 minutes, 7.5 points and 5.1 rebounds a game.

“This is huge addition for our program,” said Popovic. “Polycarpe is a physical and versatile player that can guard multiple positions and has improved tremendously on the offensive end during his last two years at Cégep. His work ethic fits our team culture and we look forward to seeing him develop over the years.”

Mbida Abomo came to Quebec from France where he played for his local club Saint Thomas Basket Le Havre. In 2018 he played one year of Cégep basketball with Collège de Rosemont before joining Brébeuf for two seasons.

When it came time to choose a university program, Mbida Abomo felt good about committing to Concordia.

“I have a good relationship with the coaches,” he explained. “There’s a good rapport between us. They proposed a good plan for academics and basketball. And I like Montreal a lot.”

The addition of Mbida Abomo completes a deep and talented recruiting class.
