Concordia women's hockey team announces its 2021-22 captains

Head coach Julie Chu is pleased to announce the captains of the Concordia Stingers women’s hockey team for the 2021-22 season.

Sixth-year forward Audrey Belize will wear the C. She is a three-time RSEQ all-star and was on the RSEQ conference’s all-rookie team in 2017.“It’s an honour to represent the players, the family, the legacy,” said Belzile. “We know this group is special and we know we can be a team that can win. We have high hopes but at the same time we are realistic and have to take things one step at a time.”

The assistant captains are sixth-year defender Brigitte Laganière, fourth-year forward Alexandra Boulanger and fourth-year defender Olivia Hale.

Laganière is a two-time all-star and was a second team all-Canadian in 2020. She says being a captain of one of the top teams in the nation is a privilege and not at all stressful.

“I don’t see it as extra pressure,” she said. “I see it as a positive challenge. We will help keep people accountable and help everyone grow. The expectations are high, but it’s something we can achieve.”

Boulanger will bring a unique perspective to the unit. She’s the oldest player on the team and has experience with other university programs and the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. Perhaps most importantly, she was recently selected for a new mentorship program named Creating Coaches. She is developing her leadership and coaching skills through the initiative. She also serves as an assistant coach with the Cégep St. Laurent Patriotes.

Hale will be the youngest serving captain of the group. She’s in her fourth year with the program after developing her skills at St. Paul’s School in Concord, N.H.

The 2021-22 season starts tonight when the Stingers host the Ottawa Gee-Gees in their home-opener. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
