Stingers well-represented on RSEQ women's hockey all-star teams

Eight members of the Concordia Stingers were on the honour roll when the RSEQ announced its women's hockey all-star and all-rookie teams for the 2021-22 season.

Forward Stephanie Lalancette and defender Brigitte Laganière were named to the first all-star team.

Lalancette was the leading scorer on the Stingers and finished third in conference scoring. She scored seven goals and added 14 assists for 21 points in 15 games. This is her first all-star honour.

Laganière earns her fourth league honour. She was also a first team all-star in 2020. The previous year she was named to the second team, and in 2017, the assistant captain was a member of the RSEQ all-rookie squad. She had three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 15 games and finished fifth in league scoring.

The Stingers took four spots on the second team. Forwards Rosalie Bégin-Cyr, Audrey Belzile and Marie-Pascale Bernier, as well as goaltender Alice Philbert were honoured. 

Bégin-Cyr continues to add to her impressive résumé. She was the conference MVP and a first-team all-star in 2020. She was the RSEQ’s Rookie of the Year in 2019. This year she ranked eighth amongst the league’s scorers with five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 15 games.

The team captain, Belzile has now been recognized in each of her five years in action. She was on the first team in 2019 and 2020, she was a second team honouree in 2018 and she made the all-rookie team in 2017. She wraps up her career with seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 10 games.

Bernier, also a senior, receives her first conference honour. She finished fourth in league scoring with eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 15 games.

The Stingers have a goalie on the honour roll for the first time since Katherine Purchase in 2015. Philbert played 13 games and had a goals-against average of 1.46 and a save percentage of .927. She has nine wins, including four shutouts to her credit.

Forwards Émilie Lavoie and Chloé Gendreau were named to the all-rookie team.

Lavoie was the conference’s Rookie was the Year. She finished sixth in RSEQ scoring with eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 15 games. Gendreau also turned heads in her first year with two goals and seven assists for nine points in 15 games.

Major awards were also announced and the Stingers took three of the four big honours. Julie Chu was named Coach of the Year, Lavoie is the conference’s top rookie and Laganière is the recipient of the RSEQ Leadership and Social Engagement Award.
