Coach Jocelyn Barrieau to head up Rugby Canada's NextGen team

Rugby Canada has selected Concordia's Jocelyn Barrieau to serve as head coach of the Canada East Selects team in the NextGen Women's Sevens Tournament taking place at the end of April in Langford, B.C.

The tournament is designed to provide high-level competition for top young players being evaluated by Rugby Canada. Three Canadian teams – East Selects, West Selects and the Maple Leaf Academy will compete. An American entry will round out the field.

Barrieau’s team will draw players from five universities in Eastern Canada. Players were identified from 15s competitions held in the fall and NextGen Sevens camps held last month. Rosters have not been announced but Stinger Mahalia Robinson participated in a NextGen ID camp March 6-11.

Barrieau took over as head coach of the Stingers women’s rugby program in July of 2018. She has been coaching for more than 15 years and has held several key coaching positions with Rugby Quebec and Rugby Canada.
