Stingers welcome Aleks Mitrovic to basketball coaching staff

Head coach Rastko Popovic is pleased to announce Aleks Mitrovic has joined the Concordia Stingers men's basketball program as the lead assistant coach.

“We are very excited about adding Aleks to our coaching staff,” said Popovic. “His playing experience at various levels as well as previous coaching experience in U Sports will be very valuable to our staff and student-athletes. Aleks is a dedicated student of the game and I look forward to working with him this upcoming season.”

The Montrealer, who is originally from Belgrade, Serbia, played Cégep basketball at Dawson College, where he won a CCAA national championship in 2007. He went on to play NCAA Division 2 basketball at Mount Olive College in North Carolina.

Mitrovic returned to Montreal and played two seasons at McGill University, graduating with a Masters in Teaching and Learning. He was part of McGill’s RSEQ championship team in 2013.

After university, he played professional basketball in Japan and still plays on the FIBA 3x3 circuit. His coaching experience includes time at the university level with McGill.

“I am very happy to be joining the Stingers men’s basketball program. I look forward to getting to know and working with our student-athletes and rest of the coaching staff as well as meeting the alumni and all the Stingers fans during this season.”
