Diana Cicchillo scored at 4:39 of the fourth overtime period to give the Laurier Golden Hawks a 2-1 victory in the championship game of the 38th annual Concordia-Theresa Humes Women's Hockey Tournament on Sunday at the Ed Meagher Arena in N.D.G.
It is the second consecutive Theresa Humes championship for Laurier, who is currently ranked No. 1 in Canadian university women's hockey.
The Concordia Stingers can thank the strong play of goaltender Meggy Hatin-Léveillée for helping them win the consolation final of the tournament. She backed stopped the Stingers to a 1-0 shootout victory over the No. 3-ranked McGill Martlets. Hatin-Léveillée blanked the Martlets for 60 minutes in regulation time and for another 10 minutes in overtime. She also shut down all five McGill shooters when the game went to a shootout.
Dominique Rancour was the only one to score in the shootout. She beat McGill goaltender Kalie Townsend on the first shot.
The Dawson College Blues defeated the Queen's Golden Gaels 7-5 to finish in third place, while the Ottawa Gee-Gees doubled the Carleton Ravens 4-2 in the seventh-place game.
