Olshefsky wins national rugby award

Alexandra Olshefsky, a third-year flanker, is the first Concordia Stinger to win a CIS major award in women's rugby. She was presented with the inaugural Student-Athlete Community Service Award at the all-Canadian banquet held in London, Ont., last night.

She has maintained a 3.8 GPA in Communications Studies since enrolling at Concordia and is the recipient of numerous awards including the Women's Leadership Award from the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence and the Concordia Student Union Bursary for community involvement (2005-‘06). She was a CIS Academic All-Canadian both in 2006-‘07 and 2005-‘06 and is a member of the Concordia Dean's List and of the Golden Key International Honors Society.

Olshefsky works or volunteers with Le Bon Dieu Dans La Rue helping homeless youth, AIDS Community Care Montreal, Students Taking Action in Chiapas, the Montreal West Environmental Action Committee, and the Montreal Irish's Des O'Neill International Labor Day Rugby Tournament.

An exceptional young woman – Olshefsky, 21, is an ambassador for the Stingers and Concordia University both on and off the field. The Montreal native is an outstanding student, has an amazing work ethic and her devotion to volunteer work is exemplary. She is an exceptional university women’s rugby player and her coach Graeme McGravie thinks this talented flanker has the skills to be part of the national team program.
