The Concordia men's basketball team endured a wild rollercoaster ride all season that ended on a high and vaulted the Stingers into the RSEQ playoffs and a semifinal meeting with the UQAM Citadins.
On the last day of the regular season, head coach Rastko Popovic and his young team had to defeat the Laval Rouge et Or to edge out the McGill Redbirds for the last playoff spot in the Quebec conference.
The Stingers delivered an impressive 83-47 victory before a packed gym on the Loyola Campus. Veteran guard Sami Jahan led the charge with 20 points and six rebounds. Concordia finished in fourth place with a 7-9 win-loss record.
On Thursday at 7 p.m., the first-place Citadins, who finished with a 10-6 record, will host the Stingers at Centre sportif de l’UQAM.
The teams haven’t met in the playoffs since 2019 when the Stingers defeated the Citadins 73-69 to win the RSEQ championship.
The Bishop’s Gaiters and the Rouge et Or are playing in the other conference semifinal on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Quebec City.
The winners of the two semifinals games will meet in the Quebec conference championship on Saturday.
