The third annual Joe and Ben Weider Athletic Leadership Award was presented to Concordia Stinger Emmy Fecteau at a ceremony on the university’s Sir George Williams campus on Tuesday.
The award recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in their sports, their academics and demonstrated leadership through community involvement.
Fecteau is in her 5th year of the Teaching English as a Second Language and has been a three-time Academic All-Canadian during that time. Emmy has excelled in all aspects associated with the Joe and Ben Weider Award: academically maintaining a GPA above 3.8, accumulating accolades in her stellar on-ice career, and most importantly developing as a leader in her community.
“Emmy has an outgoing personality and desire to make herself and all those around her better,” says women’s hockey head coach Julie Chu.
Since arriving at Loyola, Fecteau has been named RSEQ Rookie of the Year (2019-20), RSEQ 1st team all-star, 2nd team U SPORTS All-Canadian, won two RSEQ gold medals, a U SPORTS National Championship and a FISU Games gold medal with Team Canada. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, Fecteau was named captain of her team - a team that currently sits at #1 in Canada with a perfect 13-0 record.
Off the ice, Emmy is busy as an assistant coach with the Lac St. Louis U13AAA girls team and serves as lead instructor for the Stingers women’s hockey school. Fecteau also co-organized the Pink in the Rink event that raised over $9000 for breast cancer research.
