Stingers women's hockey lose game 3 of the RSEQ final 6-3 to the Bishop's Gaiters at the Ed Meagher Arena.
On Thursday, March 6, the Stingers beat the Gaiters 5-4 in a closely contested game on home ice in game 1 of the RSEQ finals. Zoé Thibault opened up the scoring in the first. Émilie Lussier scored her second goal of the playoffs at the end of the first period, Alexis Bedier and Émilie Lavoie both scored in the second, and the game-winner came in the third, scored by Courtney Rice.
The Gaiters forced a game 3 by beating the Stingers on Saturday, March 8, by a score of 4-1 in Lennoxville. Émilie Lavoie scored the lone Stingers goal.
Game 3 was back at a jam-packed Ed Meagher Arena, where the Stingers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to Béa Caron. The Gaiters answered with a goal of their own and the first period ended equal at 1-1.
The Gaiters scored early in the second, then went up 3-1 with 5 minutes left in the middle period. Émilie Lussier scored to get the Stingers back to within one goal heading into the third. Bishop's scored two in the first half of the third going up 5-2. Alexandra-Anne Boyer scored to cut the deficit to 5-3, but the Gaiters ended the Stingers chances with an empty-net goal.
Women's hockey will now turn their focus to the U SPORTS National Championship tournament at the University of Waterloo on March 20-23. Three Stingers are up for major awards: Julie Chu for Coach of the Year, Émilie Lussier for Player of the Year, and Jessymaude Drapeau for the Community Service Award.
