Stinger shoots hoops in Rwanda

Hamza Ruhezamihigo, a first-year forward with the Concordia Stingers men’s basketball team, is in his native Rwanda preparing for the 2009 Zone V African Basketball Championship qualifiers.

The event will run Feb. 23 to March 1 at Amahoro Indoor stadium in Kigali, Rwanda. In addition to the host team, the event will feature competitors from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt and Burundi.

The winner will qualify for this year's Afro-basket event in Libya. The Afro-basket competition is the most respected basketball event in Africa.

Ruhezamihigo also competed in the qualifying event in 2007 when he was a crowd favourite. He was named MVP of the competition.

The Stingers will be without their rookie forward for the final two games of the regular season and the Quebec conference semifinals versus the McGill Redmen on Feb. 27.
