Head coach Les Lawton and the Concordia Stingers women’s hockey team will have a new look when they take to the ice this evening for the opening of the 43rd annual Theresa Humes Women’s Hockey Tournament.
“I’m expecting good things from what we’ve seen,” said Lawton. “We’ve added size and depth. Our attitude has turned a corner. The players are chopping at the bit.”
The Humes tournament is traditionally held over the Christmas holidays, but the current edition was moved to October. The move has been met with enthusiasm.
“It a good kickoff to our season,” says Lawton, now in his 28th season on the Stingers bench. “People like the idea of being at home rather than traveling in the preseason. We’ve got a lot of alumni and parents coming in this weekend.”
Joining the Stingers are three strong teams – the Guelph Gryphons, Ottawa Gee-Gees and York Lions.
