Tittley, Stingers top rugby honor roll

Jackie Tittley tops an impressive list of Concordia Stingers who were named to the Quebec university women’s rugby conference all-star team announced today.

Tittley, a third-year inside centre, was the league’s MVP and earned her third straight all-star. She helped lead the Stingers to a 6-0 win-loss record in regular season play. She was the leading scorer in Quebec with five tries, 22 converts and three penalty goals for 78 points in six games.

“She’s definitely mature,” says Concordia head coach Graeme McGravie. “She has a lot of confidence and she brings confidence out in others. She works very hard and works hard to bring out the best in her teammates. She has a great head for the game. She thinks everything out.”

Joining Tittley on the rugby honor roll are four teammates. Lock Claire Hortop, an Exercise Sciene student from Mississauga, Ont., earns her fourth consecutive all-star honor.

Last year’s CIS Rookie of the Year Hughanna Gaw, a No. 8, makes the team for the second straight year. The Elgin, Que. native studies in the Leisure Sciences program.

Making their first appearances on the honor roll are lock Sarah Nesbitt, a Design Art major from Regina, and centre Patricia Lapierre, a Montrealer who studies Political Science.

McGravie was named the Quebec conference Coach of the Year. He received the same recognition from the league in 2007.
