Rugby's Jackie Tittley named all-Canadian

Third-year inside centre Jackie Tittley was awarded her third straight women’s rugby all-Canadian honor at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) gala banquet in Peterborough, Ont. last night.

Tittley, a native of Kirkland, Que., was the Quebec conference MVP. She led the league in scoring with five tries, 22 converts and three penalty goals for 78 points in six games.

She was an integral part of Concordia’s 11-0 undefeated season. The Stingers were perfect in six regular season games and they won two playoff games. They were also 3-0 in preseason action.

“Jackie is a dream to coach,” said Concordia head coach Graeme McGravie. “She is always working hard to improve not only her game, but the game around her. She leads her team from the front both on and off the field with her dedication and play.”

From a skill point, McGravie says Tittley has it all. She can kick, pass, run, tackle.

“She’s such a dominant force, other teams in Quebec scheme to run away from her,” McGravie says. “But she can run side-to-side with anyone. She can adapt on the fly and she makes tackles for other people. Jackie has worked diligently on improving her strength in contact areas and has become one of the best tacklers in the province.”

Tittley and the Stingers are at Trent University for the CIS national championship. Their first game is Friday at 11 a.m. versus the Queen’s Gaels. The game will be Web cast by SSN at www.ssncanada.ca.
