John Dore, who was a unanimous selection as the Quebec men's basketball conference's Coach of the Year, led the list of Concordia honorees when the Quebec Student Sports Federation unveiled its all-stars and major award winners earlier today.
Dore was a unanimous selection by the Quebec conference head coaches. With two regular season games remaining his team has a 13-1 win-loss record and has clinched first place. The Stingers are currently ranked No. 7 in Canadian university men's basketball.
This is the 10th Coach of the Year honor for Dore who took over the Concordia program in the 1989-'90 season. Since then he has taken the Stingers to the national championship tournament nine times. He won the national crown in 1990 and placed second in 1995 and 2005.
Patrick Perrotte, a fourth-year forward from Verdun, Que., was named to the first all-star team. This is his fourth all-star honor and he was also an honorable mention all-Canadian in 2005. This season, he averaged 14.9 points and 4.2 rebounds a game.
Rookie guard Damian Buckley was also a first team all-star. The Montreal native averaged 16.6 points a game, which is tops on the Stingers and third in the conference. He is also the top free throw shooter in Quebec with a .819 percentage.
Buckley was also named to the QSSF all-rookie team. Veteran guard Chris Blackwood of Toronto and second-year forward Dwayne Buckley of Montreal were named to the conference's second all-star team.
