McGrath, Stingers host high school all-stars

Concordia Stingers head coach Gerry McGrath and members of his team are working with some of the best young football talent in the province, getting them ready for the 23rd annual Alouette Classic High School All-Star Game.

Approximately 120 of the top players from the ligue scolaire métropolitaine are training daily in preparation for the game that will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Concordia Stadium, 7200 Sherbrooke St. W.

The high school players are divided into two groups – the Pierre Vercheval Division and the Mike Soles Division – to face off in the game.

McGrath will be head coach of Team Vercheval on game day. McGill Redmen coach Sonny Wolfe will direct Team Soles, and Montreal Carabins coach Marc Santerre is working in an organizing capacity.

“It’s a honor to host a camp and game for these talented young men,” says McGrath. “We’re pleased to be involved in anything that helps promote education and football.”

Other members of the Concordia Stingers joining McGrath in coaching the all stars are: defensive co-ordinator Warren Craney, offensive line coach Brad Collinson, defensive line coach Bryan Daley and standout players Alexandre Turp, Cory Greenwood, Sean Guevremont, Curtis Merrick, Mark Deslauriers and Donny Cave.
